Admissions Criteria
In reviewing applications, the Admissions Committee considers all aspects of the candidate's file. Since every applicant is unique, a comprehensive list of all considerations is not possible; however, the following is a partial list of factors considered:
  • Undergraduate major
  • Undergraduate and graduate GPA
  • Breadth of coursework, especially coursework in economics, political science, mathematics/statistics, and area studies
  • Degree of Pacific Rim language proficiency
  • GRE scores (MPIA applicants can substitute GMAT scores)
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Work experience
  • International experience
  • Leadership
  • Community involvement and volunteer work
  • Awards and honors
  • Statement of Purpose


A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in undergraduate upper division course work is required for admission to graduate study at IR/PS.
