ChandlerProfessor of Political Science UCSD, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093-0001 Phone: (858) 534-3130 Fax: (858) 534-5355 Email: mchandler@ucsd.edu Professor Marsha Chandler is a noted scholar of political economy, law and public policy, and comparative public policy. The excellence of her work has led to her election as a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of Canada, the highest academic honor bestowed in that country. In the years of 1997-2004 Professor Chandler served as Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of California, San Diego. As the chief academic officer she was responsible for policies and decisions relating to the UCSD campus, as well as all academic programs and curriculum, and faculty appointments and performance. During the year of 2003-2004, Chandler also served as the Acting Chancellor of UCSD. Professor Chandler received her B.A. from the College of the City of New York, and her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Subsequently, she became a professor at the University of Toronto where she held appointments in both political science and the school of law. She also served as Toronto's Dean of Arts and Science from 1990 to 1997. She is the author of five books and numerous journal articles and book chapters. Her most recent book, Trade and Transitions, explores how nations adjust to changing patterns of international trade. She also served twice as a visiting professor at Harvard's Center for International Affairs, and has lectured throughout the world. Professor Chandler has received numerous honors and is actively involved in civic affairs. In addition to her membership in the Royal Society of Canada, the University of Toronto awarded her an honorary Doctor of Laws degreein 2003. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Children's Hospital and Health Center; she serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, the Fulbright Program (Canada-U.S. Foundation for Educational Exchange), the San Diego Opera, the Foundation for the Children of the Californias, the UCSD Foundation Board and the Charter 100.
