Hoshi has been editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies since 1999. He is a founding member of Japan's Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee, a group of non-partisan economists who continue to make recommendations related to the Japanese financial system. He has published numerous articles in leading journals in the field of economics and finance on such topics as financial deregulation in Japan; banking crisis in Japan; monetary policy in Japan; and historical evolution of the Japanese financial system. He has recently published a book titled Corporate Financing and Governance in Japan: The Road to the Future (co-authored with Anil Kashyap, published by MIT Press in 2001). The other publications include: Crisis and Change in the Japanese Financial System (co-edited with Hugh Patrick, 2000) and "The Japanese Banking Crisis: Where Does It Come From and How Will It End?" (with Anil Kashyap) in NBER Economics Annual 1999 (MIT Press). Hoshi joined IR/PS in 1988.
