His expertise includes international finance, APEC, GATT, and the world trading system and economic development and forecasting in Pacific Rim countries. Krause is director emeritus of the Korea-Pacific Program at IR/PS, which he founded in 1989 and for which he served as director for 10 years. His many publications include World Politics and International Economics, The Singapore Economy Reconsidered, The Australian Economy, A View from the North, Economic Interaction in the Pacific Basin, The U.S. Economic Policy Toward the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations: Meeting the Japanese Challenge, and "The Economics and Politics of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997-98," Council of Foreign Relations. Krause served as a senior member of the White House Council of Economic Advisors in the Johnson Administration. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his academic career and served as a consultant to the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Government's Special Representative for Trade Negotiations. He was a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution and earlier taught economics at Yale University. Krause, who joined IR/PS in 1986, is the first holder of the endowed Pacific Economic Cooperation Chair in International Economic Relations.
