Global Leadership Institute*
The GLI Summer Prep Program
GLI offers a five-week intensive program during the summer to prepare
fellows for the academic year.
English:
Intensive English is the core of the Prep Program. This class focuses
on speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.
Case Study Methods:
The objective of the Case Study Methods component of the Prep Program
is to improve fellows' skills in managing policy and organizational change
by learning from the experience of public managers. Students will increase
their capacity to analyze problems and identify the essential factors
in effective management. In addition, they will enhance their ablility
to participate in collaborative learning, both at the Graduate School
of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) and in professional
roles. Participants will spend 3 hours per day for 5 sessions.
Fellows use the Computer Lab to complete their assignments and
thereby learn the fundamentals of electronic mail, document creation,
and the Worldwide Web in the school's own state-of-the-art computer facility.
The Prep Program introduces IR/PS course material that helps participants
become familiar with the content and the vocabulary of the IR/PS curriculum,
and equip them with a sense of context for their academic, cultural, and
living environment. Even though this is a rigorous academic program, there
will also be time to build friendships and enjoy San Diego's sunny and
temperate weather and extensive outdoor opportunities.
