Objective
The objective of the IR/PS Alumni Association is to create a network of communication to support the participation of alumni in the continuing life of the IR/PS community and in programs that enrich their professional, cultural, and personal lives. The Association also will assist IR/PS in attracting exceptionally capable students to IR/PS, and to those ends, to provide, through its membership and otherwise, financial and other assistance to the IR/PS community.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors will direct the activities of the Association and consist of Executive Officers, At-Large Directors, and Regional Directors. Each position will have an equal vote in all matters involving the Board and the Association.
Executive Officers:
The Board will have three Executive Officers, consisting of an Incoming President, President, and Outgoing President. The terms of the Incoming President and the Outgoing President will be one year. The term of the President will be two years. At the end of the second year, the Incoming President will succeed the President, and the President will succeed the Outgoing President. The Incoming President will be elected through the annual election.
At-Large Directors:
The Board will have six At-Large Directors, each serving a two-year term. Three At-Large Members will be elected each year through the annual election.
Regional Directors:
The Board will have Regional Directors appointed by the Board for a two-year term. The Board will determine the specific regions represented on the Board, however, it is the intent that the following regions be represented at all times: Japan, China, Korea, Europe, Mexico, Washington D.C., San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
Annual Election
The Board will hold an annual election in the fall of each year. All IR/PS Alumni will be eligible to vote. The Board is responsible for determining all matters related to the election process.
Role of the President and Board of Directors’ Meetings
The President is responsible for scheduling and chairing at least five Board of Directors meetings per 12-month period, ensuring that the annual election is held, and facilitating the setting of goals by the Board. Representatives from PIASO, the UC San Diego Alumni Association, IR/PS faculty, and staff will be invited to all Board meetings. The President will also attend meetings of the IR/PS International Advisory Board.
Funding
Funding for the Association and Board activities will come from IR/PS, donations by Alumni, and other revenue sources as identified by the Board. No membership dues for the Association will be charged.
