Jodi Finkel

Jodi Finkel, who earned her PhD at UCLA, is a professor of political science at Loyola Marymount University. She researches political institutions, the rule of law, and democracy in Latin America. She has published several articles on judicial reform and democratization in Latin America (in LARR, JLAS, and LAPS) and a book, Judicial Reform as Political Insurance: Latin America in the 1990s. A painting by Dr. Finkel, "Viva Zapato/Hail Feminism," was acquired by the Museum of Latino History, Culture and Art for their permanent collection in 2010.
Jodi is a founder of MuJER, an empowerment program for sex workers in Guatemala, a founding board member of HOY, a volunteer organization in Mexico, and an academic liaison for Free the Slaves.
Jodi has worked in Latin America as a business consultant and journalist and has also lived in Paris and Barcelona studying art. At Loyola Marymount she teaches courses dealing with political and economic challenges in the developing world, and was the recipient of Loyola Marymount University's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2009.
