Jennifer Lind

MPIA '96

Jennifer Lind is an assistant professor of government at Dartmouth College, where she teaches international politics, East Asian international relations, and a seminar on war memory and international politics, and has published a book Sorry States: Apologies in International Politics.

After graduating from IR/PS, Jennifer earned her Ph.D. in political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She describes the approach that motivates her research as "using social science tools to inform the most important foreign policy questions within East Asia and in U.S. foreign policy toward the region."

Among her other research projects, Jennifer is researching the future of the Korean peninsula. Co-authored articles examine the likelihood of North Korean regime collapse and the possible U.S. military missions associated with the collapse of North Korea, analyzing the requirements of these missions. The goal of the analysis is to increase U.S. military preparedness in hopes of avoiding another Iraq debacle.

Jennifer is also exploring a future book project about energy competition and international security in order to understand the effect of Chinese energy policy on regional stability in East Asia and on Sino-US relations.

Jennifer is grateful for her IR/PS ties. She presented a talk at IR/PS about her book project in 2007 and continues to keep in touch with faculty. She worked closely with IR/PS professors Ellis Krauss and Stephan Haggard during her time at IR/PS, and says, "They have been wonderful supporters and mentors ever since."
