Yedan Zhu, MPIA ‘13Shangyu Transporation Bureau “The ShangYu Transportation Bureau is a government organization that implements development strategy, policies, and regulations in regard to the national highway. As an intern for the waterway transport sector and administrative department, I assist in the drafting and monitoring of policy documents for traffic administration. This internship has placed me dead center in the flow of state information, which has allowed me to work daily with the processing of critical data before their submission to upper level government officials. So far, my duties have included drafting and recording highway statistics for the Municipal Office, recording minutes at meetings, and collaborating on upcoming projects within different departments in the Bureau itself.” |

Ching-Cheh Huang, MPIA ‘13International Network for Bamboo and Rattan “INBAR is an organization dedicated to meeting the so called “MAD Challenge” created by the climate change, which requires simultaneous action on mitigation, adaptation, and development through the use of bamboo. As an intern, I am working on a project reviewing current literature and debates on whether or not Harvested Wood Products (HWP) should be included into the international discussion of carbon accounting. With regard to this topic, I will also be determining whether or not the inclusion of bamboo would be beneficial for HWP. I expect the final product of my internship to be a policy recommendation paper that will argue for/against the inclusion of HWP into global carbon accounting.” |

Willy Chow, MPIA ‘13U.S. Department of State - Consulate General Shanghai “As the third busiest consulate in the world, the US Consulate General in Shanghai provides a great hands-on experience for anyone interested in becoming a Foreign Service Officer or working at the State Department. I work in the Fraud Prevention Unit of the Consular Section, which examines various cases involving applicants attempting to obtain visas under false pretenses or with fake documents. I also interact directly with visa applicants by assuring their materials are ready before being interviewed by FSO adjudicators. On occasion, I will participate in Outreach Trips within Shanghai or in nearby provinces to promote US economic interests and educate Chinese nationals on the visa application process.” |
