Children of the Nations
Lira, Uganda

“Within the first week of my internship, I was out in the field working at a Children's Village in Lira, Uganda. I’ve also been focusing on sustainability projects, including planting and maintaining several different crops, installing solar panels on school buildings and homes, and surveying the effectiveness of ProVectors, a product designed to reduce the number of mosquitoes and Malaria, in the surrounding villages. This hands-on experience has been incredibly insightful and has given me a greater understanding of what is actually done outside the office of a non-profit organization. I believe this experience will help me in managing those in the field, conducting surveys and doing physical labor, as I will actually have firsthand experience.”

United States Embassy
Luanda, Angola

"As an Africa Bureau/Department of State intern, I am working in the General Services Office of the U.S. Embassy. This section oversees property, travel, procurement, housing and motorpool. I have primarily been assisting the property team with the following projects: organization of the Embassy warehouse, purchase of the annual furniture order, preparation and completion of an auction and creation of a proposal for new Post Welcome Kits. On the side, I am teaching weekly aerobics classes for Embassy staff, soaking up as much Angolan culture as possible and volunteering at the monthly polio vaccination campaigns."

Centro Terra Viva Organization
Mapato, Mozambique

"Centro Terra Viva (CTV)'s objective is to educate both of civil society and the Mozambican government on environmental issues so that they may be empowered to participate in the defense and appreciation of the world's natural resources. I am currently involved in planning and securing funding for Maputo's first beach cleanup and educational campaign. In the next few weeks I will also serve as an ambassador for the organization in the educational seminars and debates. I will travel with CTV to two other provinces in Mozambique to educate the residents and gather their feedback for a final report to be presented to the Assembly before the vote. I am very lucky to be able to participate in the protection of Mozambique's natural environment, giving me the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the country firsthand."
