United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies
Yokohama, Japan

"The UNU-IAS operates as a global think tank for the UN on issues such as sustainable development, bio-diplomacy, science policy, and technology development connected to traditional knowledge. My internship with the Satoyama initiative, an international partnership with the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, has given me the experience of working with researchers from developed and developing countries around the world. I have been working on website content and migration and print publications in English and Japanese, a conference on sustainable reconstruction from the earthquake and tsunami, and will continue to work on a translation project aimed at preserving forestry, agriculture, and aquaculture knowledge from past generations in Japan and Indonesia."

The Asan Institute for Policy Studies
Seoul, Korea

“As a leading policy institution in Korea, the Asan Institute brings together policy makers, academics and think tank members from around the world to collaborate and promote peace and stability in the region. Supporting a senior researcher on Korean politics, I assist on the research for Korean election rules and the impact of public opinion polls on how citizens vote. The full immersion into the Korean work environment and social culture has been an invaluable experience of learning more about this bustling metropolis and its people.”

US Department of State--Nagoya, Japan Consulate

"Due to the small size of the consulate, I am able to experience all different types of jobs.  From writing reports that cover the Upper House election results in Japan, visiting military bases stationed here in Japan, and doing presentations for university students that explain the importance of the US-Japan Alliance, the consulate here has tried to keep me very busy to maximize the value of my internship. As Nagoya is the hometown of Toyota cars, it is important that the Nagoya Consulate, which works closely with the Nagoya CSI and Port Authority, ensures the safety of shipments to the US."
