Michael Jarand, MPIA ‘13U.S. Department of the Treasury “This summer I (and Noah Brennan--also pictured) have been interning in the Office of International Affairs (IA) at the Department of the Treasury. I've been working in the Office of Europe and Eurasia, which has been occupied with Euro-crisis issues this summer. As part of my work, I produce daily updates on Eurozone periphery sovereign yields, CDS, and banking equities. I've also worked on a number of analytical products focusing on issues such as property prices in the Nordics, flights to safety, structural reforms in Portugal, and the UK's austerity program. So far, it's been a valuable professional experience, one which I look forward to putting to use in the following academic year and beyond.” |

In addition, I have also helped with business operations by completing market research and providing recommendations as to how the firm can expand and improve one of its current service lines.” |

As one of two interns for the small organization, I have had the opportunity to take part in many aspects of its operations. I am currently writing a blog on how new SEC rules will reduce corruption in developing countries, researching how to increase transparency in public procurement, and producing PTF's quarterly newsletter. I also work closely with the organization's members and project advisors, including retired World Bank directors, and attend their presentations.” |
