Regional Focus Groups

  • Asameshikai - students and professionals who share a keen interest in Japan's culture, language, politics, and economy
  • China Focus - IR/PS students interested in Chinese languages, politics, economy, and culture

    Chinese Language Film Society - screens motion pictures from the university's Chinese film collection to increase participants’ knowledge of Chinese-speaking regions, cultures, peoples, histories, trends, and filmmaking styles. Screenings are open to students, faculty, and staff with Chinese expertise and non-experts

    Latin America Student Organization (LASO) - dedicated to increasing the understanding of Latin American politics, economics, and culture
  • Mannam - for those interested in learning about the culture, language, politics, and economy of Korea
  • Southeast Asia Link (SEAL) - dedicated to fostering an in-depth understanding of the diversity of Southeast Asian nations in terms of their unique culture, politics, and economy

Professional Development Groups

  • Baja Project - catalyzes change in El Barril, Baja California, Mexico to empower its residents and improve its education, health, infrastructure, and quality of life
  • Black Box Athletics (BBA) - collegiate, domestic and international sports statistical analysis group
  • Development Club - pre-professional organization bringing together students interested in pursuing international development and nonprofit management
  • Environment Society - organizes a variety of activities to engage students interested in the environment, facilitate discussion about current environmental issues, and interact with professors and professionals working in the field
  • Export Access Global Consulting - a graduate student-run global market research and consulting group that provides international business solutions to firms ranging from small-sized to Fortune 500 companies 
  • Journal of International Policy Solutions (JIPS) - a publication created and run by students to allow connection with peers to share information and ideas, cooperate across institutional boundaries and, most importantly, find concrete solutions to international problems
  • International Clean Tech Initiative (ICTI) - working towards facilitating clean energy related cooperation, identifying energy efficient approaches, and commercializing clean energy technologies
  • Net Impact - improves the world by growing and strengthening a network of new leaders who use the power of business to make a positive net social, environmental, and economic impact
  • Policy Analysis and Strategy Simulations (PASS) - presents or co-sponsors three political crisis simulations a year where students use skills in negotiation, analysys, and strategy to understand how high-level foreign policy decisions are made
  • Strategic Community Consulting (SCC) - creates links between IR/PS graduate students and the nonprofit community in San Diego by providing research and consulting services
