Yutaka Ishida is studying international economics with a regional focus in China. Born in Japan, he moved to Seattle, Washington at the age of 14. He came to San Diego, California for his undergraduate and graduate studies. During his years at UC San Diego, he studied abroad at the University of Cambridge, UK and Fudan University, China to expand his international experience.
At IR/PS, Yutaka serves as a Graduate Student Association representative for the IR/PS Pacific International Affairs Student Organization, as well as the external chair of Asameshikai, an organization for students who have an interest in Japan. During his summer internship, Yutaka worked at the Investment Banking division of Bank of America, Merrill Lynch in Tokyo. This experience allowed him to fully participate in the busy and rapidly changing private sector of finance, helping him gain knowledge of global business. Yutaka’s summer internship with Merrill Lynch combined with his ongoing interest in economics influenced Yutaka to focus his studies on financial regulations and trade policies.
