After receiving a bachelor’s degree in International Studies, Lauren Reed conducted ethnographic research on the Tibetan plateau and completed a year of advanced Mandarin study in Beijing. She worked as a grant-writer for a documentary film company that focused on public health issues before joining CET Academic Programs as the director of the Beijing Chinese Language study abroad program for 3 years. Before coming to IR/PS she was the interim general manager at Hua Dan, a non-governmental organization with locations in Beijing and Chengdu that works to empower migrant communities through educational theater programs.
As an IR/PS student, Lauren serves as the president of China Focus and the co-director of the Environmental Policy and Business Forum to provide platforms for discourse and engagement on issues relating to China and business applications of environmental issues, respectively. She is a graduate student researcher at the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, and has written policy briefs and papers relating to the political economy of China’s science and technology sectors. Last summer she spent most of her time performing research for and contributing to the development of the China Relational Database for the Minerva Project. Lauren is focusing on security issues in international relations and quantitative data analysis at IR/PS to help find solutions to global problems through high-caliber policy-driven research and analysis.
