Fellowships
Named Endowed Fellowships
Since 1987, more than 500 students have received fellowship support. Today, IR/PS has 15 named fellowships that support approximately 40 students annually. IR/PS distributes approximately $1.2M in direct student support. In addition to other areas of support, following is a brief summary of names endowments supporting students enrolled in the IR/PS graduate program:
Binkley Family Endowed Fellowship was established in 1992.
Chiap Hua Cheng's Foundation Endowed Fellowship was established in 1995 to support one student awarded based on academic merit. The fellowship is awarded to students who are citizens of China and are from either The People's Republic of China or its Special Administrative Region Hong Kong.
Dr. Y.C. Cheng Memorial Fellowship was established in 2006 to support one student awarded based on academic merit. The fellowship is awarded to students who are citizens of China and are from either The People's Republic of China or its Special Administrative Region Hong Kong.
Fred and Betsy Garry Endowed Fellowship was established in 1995.
Peter A. Gourevitch Endowed Fellowship was established in 1996.
Hearst Endowed Fellowship was established in 1998.
William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Endowed Fellowship was established in 1989 to provide training for students seeking careers in international affairs and primarily supports PhD students at IR/PS.
Jeannie and Larry Lawrence Endowed Fellowship was established in 1987 to support a graduate fellowship for a minority female student.
Ho Miulam Endowed Fellowship was established in 1992 to support a student whose career goal involves a strong commitment to international affairs in the private or public sector. The student should have demonstrates excellent academic qualifications, strength in leadership skills, vigor in initiative and work, and a commitment to contributing to society.
S. Falck Nielsen Endowed Fellowship was established in 1998 to support a student whose studies focus on the Pacific basin region.
Price Endowed Fellowship was established in 1992 to support a student whose studies focus on economics, business and international trade in Latin America with a preference given to Mexico.
Edwin O. Reischauer Memorial Endowed Fellowship was established in 1992 to support a student whose studies focus on Japan.
Lawrence B. and Ewa Robinson Endowed Fellowship was established in 1990.
Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Endowed Fellowship was established in 1991 to support outstanding students who have a strong commitment to international affairs in the private or public sector.
Elizabeth and Joseph Taft Endowed Graduate Fellowship was established in 2004.
A key reason for IR/PS's growing distinction is its ability to attract the best graduate students globally, regardless of their ability to pay. A fellowship can ensure educational opportunity and make a difference in a graduate's career. Named endowed fellowships may be created with gifts or pledges of $50,000 or more.
