SECTION 6: FACULTY SERVICES AND RELATED POLICIES ON THE UCSD CAMPUS

BANKING

ATM machines are located at RIMAC and northeast of the Price Center.

The UCSD Branch Office of the University and State Employees (USE) Credit Union provides convenient, major financial services to all UCSD employees, as well as their spouses and children. Membership is for life. The USE Credit Union is located across from the Medical School at 3100 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093 (619) 534-2802. BOOKSTORE, UCSD

The UCSD Bookstore is located at the Price Center, near Geisel Library. The Bookstore offers a wide variety of products and services to the University community, including shopping via computer and fax. Hours may vary at the beginning or end of quarters and on holidays, but are generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (with free parking), and Sunday, noon - 5:00 p.m. (open most Sundays between late September and mid-June). CAMPUS TOURS

The UCSD Visitors Program conducts campus tours for visitors, new faculty members or faculty being recruited, new employees, and friends of the University. The tours are led by trained volunteer tour guides who are available to community and campus tour groups on both a scheduled and "by request" basis.

Minivan tours are available the first and third Sundays of each month, starting at 2:00 p.m.
from the S. Gilman Information Pavilion at the south end of the campus. Walking tours are offered on alternate Sundays, also starting at 2:00 p.m. from the S. Gilman Information Pavilion. Special group tours can be arranged by request. The tours include some of the Stuart Collection of outdoor sculptures, and do not include building interiors.

The tours are designed to provide general information about UCSD and are geared to persons who are interested in learning about UCSD as a local educational and cultural resource. CHILDCARE

The UCSD Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) provides care for children between the ages of 11 months (and walking) and 6 years. DIRECT DEPOSIT (SUREPAY)

Newly hired UCSD employees must fill out a Payroll Wage Distribution Request form, indicating whether they wish to be receive paychecks and reimbursements by paper check or by direct deposit (Surepay). This form is available from the Director of Academic Personnel and Curricular Planning.

Surepay allows you to receive your non-payroll payments and all types of reimbursements (including travel) by a direct deposit to either your checking or savings account. Direct deposit will take effect within eight weeks from the date Payroll receives your registration request. You will receive a paper check in the interim. Once the deposit has been initiated by Disbursements, you will receive a confirmation document at the same address that you have received your check.

EMERITI FACULTY

Those faculty members who are considering retirement should contact Ms. Linda Jacobson in the Benefits Office regarding pre-retirement counseling. Ms. Jacobson can provide estimates of retirement income, information regarding continuation of health and welfare benefits, and information on Medicare. Ms. Jacobson can be reached by phone at 4-9686 or by e-mail at lmjacobson@ucsd.edu. Faculty members may also wish to consult Ms. Tuyet Le, a Certified Financial Planner in the Office of Human Resources (tule@ucsd.edu; 822-2568).

Campus organizations that serve faculty members with emeritus status include the UCSD Emeriti Association and the UCSD Retirement Association. More information on the UCSD Emeriti Association is available online at: http://emeriti.ucsd.edu. Interested emeriti may receive information about the UCSD Retirement Association by calling 4-4724.

EMPLOYEE REHABILITATION

The Employee Rehabilitation Office is located in Suite 348, Torrey Pines Center South. This office sometimes has funds available to assist in the purchase of equipment that is deemed medically necessary. If you have a disability and would like to explore such funding, a member of the Business Relations Office staff can help you submit a request for the funds. FACULTY AND STAFF ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (FSAP)

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is located in Suite 406, Torrey Pines Center South. FSAP is part of the UCSD Human Resources Department. It provides counseling and confidential assistance to employees and their families. The FSAP is a confidential assessment and referral service provided by UCSD for the purpose of assisting employees whose personal problems may be adversely affecting their work performance. These services are provided at no cost to employees and their immediate families. For information or appointments, call 534-5523. FACULTY CLUB

IR/PS holds membership in the Faculty Club for departmental business (e.g., faculty recruitment). If you would like to purchase an individual membership, please contact the Faculty Club. If you are not a member of the Faculty Club but would like to use the facility, you may borrow the departmental card from the Dean's Executive Assistant or the Faculty Support Assistant. Please bring your receipts back with the card and indicate to which index the expense should be charged.

HOUSING

LA JOLLA DEL SOL
This University-owned apartment complex rents apartments to faculty, staff, and students. For information, call (858) 587-1221.

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING
Off-campus housing rental information is available from the Off-Campus Housing Office, located at the Student Center, Building A, Suite 200. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and holidays. The Off-Campus Housing Office offers an online database of apartments and homes for rent, as well as links to newspaper rental listings and information on landlord/tenant rights. LIBRARIES

The IR/PS Library is the first academic library in the United States dedicated to the contemporary Pacific region. In addition to its extensive volumes and periodical subscriptions, the library boasts the Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance, a consortium of academic libraries throughout the Pacific Rim.

In addition to the IR/PS Library, the following libraries and collections are housed on the UCSD campus: the Art and Architecture Library, the Biomedical and Medical Center Libraries, the Center for Library and Instructional Computing Services, the Digital Library Program, the East Asia Collection, the Film and Video Library, the Mandeville Special Collections Library, the Music Library, the Science and Engineering Library, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Library.

NEW FACULTY RECEPTION

The Chancellor hosts an annual New Faculty Reception at University House each fall for all new faculty. The Dean's Executive Assistant provides a list of new faculty to the University House Manager each summer.

NO-SMOKING POLICY (UCSD)

No smoking is permitted in any indoor area, or within five feet of the main entrance or exit to any facility owned or leased by UCSD, including, but not limited to: administrative offices, private offices, laboratories, classrooms, conference rooms, auditoriums, dining facilities, kitchen facilities, and restroom facilities. PARKING

Parking permits can be purchased through the Transportation and Parking Services Office, located at the Gilman Parking Structure. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. SEXUAL HARRASSMENT

The University of California, San Diego, is committed to creating and maintaining a community in which all persons who participate in UCSD programs and activities can work and learn together in an atmosphere free of all forms of harassment, exploitation, or intimidation, including sexual harassment.

Every member of the UCSD community should be aware that UCSD will not tolerate sexual
harassment and that such behavior is prohibited both by law and by UCSD policy. Retaliation against a person who brings a complaint of sexual harassment is also strictly prohibited and may result in separate disciplinary action. It is UCSD's intention to take whatever action may be needed to prevent, correct, and if necessary, discipline behavior that violates this policy. All members of the UCSD community, including faculty, students, and staff, are responsible for insuring an environment free of sexual harassment.

The Office of Sexual Harassment Policy and Prevention (OSHPP) provides advice and assistance in investigating and resolving complaints of sexual harassment. The office also provides education on the subject of sexual harassment to the entire UCSD community. More information on OSHPP services is available online at: http://oshpp.ucsd.edu/.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY

UCSD is dedicated to maintaining a workplace free from the illegal use, possession, or distribution of controlled substances. Unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of controlled substances by University employees in the workplace or on University business is prohibited.

University employees shall not use illegal substances or abuse legal substances in a manner that impairs performance of assigned tasks. Employees found to be in violation of this policy may be subject to corrective action, up to and including dismissal, under applicable University policies and collective bargaining agreements. Alternatively, employees may be required to participate satisfactorily in an employee support program.

The University of California recognizes drug and alcohol dependency as treatable conditions and offers employee support programs for employees with substance-dependency problems.
