Six weeks have passed since the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake. Cities, ports, and roads have been destroyed, and the death toll has passed 28,000 and is still rising. Hundreds of thousands of people are without a home. Supply chains, distribution channels, and transportation lines were interrupted in numerous places, and this has affected economic activities all around the world. Even today strong aftershocks continue, and the nuclear disaster that started on March 11 has not been brought under control. Japan’s problems are far from over. But at the same time, we see signs of recovery: factories have been reopened and roads and houses are being rebuilt. In this town hall meeting, we update the political, economic, and social situation and discuss possible future trajectories of post-Earthquake Japan.
