The 18th Party Congress marks a once a decade leadership succession in China. The current power transition takes place in a context of slowing economy, growing social crisis, public differences among leaders, and renewed geopolitical tension in the region.
Who are the likely new leaders and what do we expect of them? What is the selection process? What is the political and economic legacy of the Hu-Wen government? Will there be significant policy changes ahead following the leadership transition? Will political reform be back on the agenda of the new regime? Wither China's relationship with the U.S.?
Three well-known China scholars will provide insight into the elite politics in China, and analyze the implications of the leadership transition for China's domestic development and external relations.
