The IR/PS Korea-Pacific Program and Mannam, the IR/PS Korea-focus student-led organization, invite the entire UC San Diego community to an evening of MUSIC and DANCE performed by the Korean Traditional Music Orchestra of the Blind.

Kim Sejong, who reigned 1418-1450 as one of the greatest kings from Korean history, founded what is today the Korean Traditional Music Orchestra of the Blind. As a member of the Court Music Institute, the blind musicians held official posts and performed for various court ceremonies and rituals. This traditional continued until the end of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1897).

With the spirit of reviving that tradition, the Siloam Center for the Visually Blind founded the Korean Traditional Music Orchestra of the Blind with the support of the Ministry of Cultures, Sports, and Tourism of Korea. In this coming performance tour in America, the Orchestra of the Blind hopes not only to introduce the musical talents of the members, who have had outstanding accomplishments in the musical world in their own right, but also to contribute to enhancing a shared mutual understanding of the two countries via this cultural exchange.

Free admission. Free guest parking at Pangea Parking Structure.

Hosted by the Siloam Center for the Blind
Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, Korea-Pacific Program, and Mannam
