An Environmental Policy and Business Forum event

The IR/PS chapter of Net Impact presents the Fall 2012 Environmental Policy and Business Forum. The Forum aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, entrepreneurs, government representatives, students, and business/community members working on the environmental challenges of today's world.

Panelists

Calvin Kawamura - Navy Region Southwest, Renewable Energy Office

Calvin Kawamura is a Project Manager with the Renewable Program Office at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest. Mr. Kawamura's focus is on development of large scale renewable energy generation at various Navy and Marine Corps installations in California and Arizona. He has 20 years of experience in the utility and energy field, including: utility regulatory, energy management, privatization, and commodity purchasing.

Grant Frost – SDG&E

Grant Frost is the Manager of Environmental Strategy and Sustainability at SDG&E and has a master’s in Environmental Administration from UC Riverside.

Admiral Len Hering – California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE)

Retired Rear Adm. Len Hering is the new Executive Director of CCSE. He retired in 2009 from a 32 year Naval career in the United States Navy with the Flag Officer rank of Rear Admiral with his last assignment serving as Commanding Officer of Naval Base San Diego. Rear Admiral Hering has advised a number of boards and companies on matters of sustainability energy use and water conservation. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and Oceanography from the State University of New York Maritime College, Master of Science degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, a Master of Science degree in Business Management from Salve Regina University, and has served as an Ethics Instructor at the United States Naval Academy.

Bernard Lindsey - Navy Region Southwest 

Bernie Lindsey is the Navy Region Southwest Regional Energy Manager. His responsibilities include identification, development, reporting and management of the Navy Region’s annual Utilities budget. Mr. Lindsey also manages and provides oversight to the Region Energy Program, including various reporting requirements, REM services at nine installations, development of energy projects, renewable energy resource initiatives, and chairmanship of the Regional Energy Steering Committee.

Rick Halperin - GC Green

Rick Halperin manages corporate development for GC Green. GC Green is a general contracting and consulting firm specializing in identifying and installing best of class benchmarking, energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy, and environmental consulting solutions for residential/multifamily, commercial, and governmental customers. Rick has experience covering a diverse spectrum including financial and operational management, strategic planning, business development, and supporting entrepreneurial endeavors. His emphasis is on “green” industries and “socially responsible” initiatives – including direct renewable energy project development, cleantech business development, and sustainability imitative project management. Rick has a BA degree from UCSB in Environmental Studies and Geography and an MBA in Finance from The George Washington Business School.
