Corporal Erick Palese is taking long runs these days. Doing push-ups, pull-ups. Listening to language tapes. Reading books and watching movies about Afghanistan.
The 23-year-old Marine from Gettysburg, Pa., is doing his best to prepare for this spring, when the United States will send a surge of 30,000 troops to the nation it invaded in 2001.
