Alumni Response to Survey About Newsletter Preferences
Estancia, La Jolla winner announced
10/14/2009
Shannon Cummings,

Recently, we conducted a survey to ensure that the IR/PS Alumni Newsletter is best serving the alumni of IR/PS. To encourage participation, a one-night stay at the Estancia in La Jolla was raffled to one lucky respondent. Congratulations to our winner, Tom Wiczynski ’99!
In total, 210 alumni responded to the survey. The most popular kinds of stories include alumni profiles/alumni in the news (93%), faculty news and updates (81%), IR/PS coming events (70%), Dean’s message (36%) and student news (34%).
We learned that 59% would like to receive Alumni News on a monthly basis; 77% like receiving IR/PS news blasts, and, of those people, 45% would prefer to receive the blasts monthly and 38% weekly.
The survey went even further to uncover the reading habits and types of articles preferred by alumni. Upon receipt of an Alumni E-newsletter, 29% open the message and skim the content, 21% open or preview the message and read only a few stories and 20% skim the content in the email preview window without opening it.
The format preferred by 49% of respondents was a lead-in paragraph with a link to the full story. Coming in a distant second with a 25% preference rate was a bullet-style lead-in with story highlights.
Thank you to all who participated! We appreciate your feedback and look forward to implementing your suggestions during the coming months.
