The School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS), in partnership with World Trade Center San Diego (WTCSD) and BIOCOM San Diego, has received an Internships for International Business Enhancement and Education (IIBEE) grant from the US Department of Education.
In support of improving the global competitiveness of San Diego businesses and their capacity to sell goods and services internationally, the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at UC San Diego has received a grant from the US Department of Education to fund graduate students in internships during the summers of 2010 and 2011. At the foundation of the IIBEE program is the understanding that the culture and ‘language’ of an industry can be just as important as the technical skills. In addition to enhancing language proficiency and cultural awareness, the program will expose student interns to all aspect of a business and its international objectives including analyzing market potential and trade policies.
The program will fund 6 internship, which will allow IR/PS Master of Pacific Affairs (MPIA) students to travel to one of five countries; China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, or Brazil. Interns will assist WTCSD and BIOCOM partners to conduct primary and secondary domestic and international market research, tailored to the organization’s needs, through surveys, interviews, and the analysis of collected data and trade statistics. Interns will deliver customized reports with varying levels of analysis, including economic, trade and demographic statistics, evaluating best market opportunities, size of markets, distribution channels, competition and potential customers and identifying foreign barriers.
