Trail Blazing for Stu
Alumnus Todd Crescenzo '06 To Run 33 Mile Marathon for Stu Motter Fund
06/05/2009
Todd Crescenzo,

Dear IR/PS Staff, Alumni, and Current Students –
I am writing to each of you in an attempt to raise money on behalf of the Stu Motter Fund. As most of you know, in May 2008, we received the devastating news that IR/PS staff member, Stu Motter, was diagnosed with two inoperable brain tumors. Last month the IR/PS Alumni Association established the fund to honor the spirit of Stu Motter and all that he has done for IR/PS since joining the program in 1998. The fund will annually support a promising student with a proven commitment to community service, much in the spirit of Stu’s work at IR/PS.
My two years at IR/PS were great ones, and people like Stu made my time at IR/PS that much more enjoyable. I distinctly remember the warm greeting that Stu always had for me upon entering the computer lab, and let’s not forget Stu’s Vaio skill set. Stu, a certified “Master Vaio Technician” constantly helped me and other classmates work through some of our most stressful IR/PS moments with a sense of ease.
The Stu Motter Fund’s monetary goal is to raise $50,000 in order to become fully endowed. We have already raised 10% of this goal and I hope to encourage further donations. Consequently, on June 14, 2009 I will be running the Holcomb Valley Trail Run at Big Bear Mountain. The race is a grueling “mini” Ultra Marathon that covers 33 miles of Big Bear mountain trails at an elevation profile of 6,500 feet to 8,500 feet. Needless to say, the race will be a challenge; however, the race is not nearly the challenge that Stu Motter and his family have worked through over the last year or the challenge the Stu Motter Fund faces to achieve its financial target. Accordingly, I am setting a goal of $100 per mile, for a total of $3,300 in new contributions to the fund. To kick off the race to $3,300 I will sponsor mile 33 and my employer, LM Capital Group will sponsor the first mile. 2 miles down and 31 one more to go!
As alumni we have an incentive to ensure that our graduate program continues to attract the most talented faculty, students, and staff all the while preserving the unique IR/PS culture. The Stu Motter Fund achieves exactly this and I hope you will help me with my goal of raising $100 per mile.
