Student Spotlight: Rhiannon Kucharski

IR/PS Student Receives Fellowship for Studying Conservation Policy

Rhiannon Kucharski is an International Economics Student at IR/PS with a regional focus in Latin America. Rhiannon has practical, experience-driven expertise in monitoring and evaluation, research, operational and financial management, and organizational leadership. As a consultant for Project Concern International, she conducted statistical analyses of survey data from a large-scale skills training program for orphans and vulnerable children. In addition, she co-authored associated reports for the Zambian Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development and for the Zambian National Service.

Rhiannon recently received a significant research grant. The goal and vision of this interdisciplinary project is to help the general public to effect better management of ocean resources such as coastal fish communities and local fisheries in the Gulf of California. She will be working with IR/PS Professor Junjie Zhang as well as with students at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and the Communications Department at UC San Diego.

After graduation, Rhiannon plans to continue her work in the field of international development. She is particularly interested in public health, economic empowerment, women’s issues, child rights, and public policy-related projects.
