Melissa La Bouff, GLI,

Global Leadership Institute (GLI), the graduate-level executive education program and study abroad destination for postgraduate researchers and students at IR/PS, led a professional tour to San Francisco for 15 GLI Fellows. Part of the GLI Fellow curriculum includes professional tours, which are trips to government agencies and companies that are germane to the Fellows interests and careers.
Over the course of two days, the GLI Fellows participated in meetings with professionals at the San Francisco Mayor’s Office, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Federal Reserve, eBay, and Yahoo. IR/PS alumni; Annika Alford '94, Senior Director at Yahoo!; Jay Hanson '96, Vice President of Product Development at eBay; and Matthew Reilly '06, a Senior Analyst at the GAO were highly instrumental in the coordination of three of the meetings.
In addition to the meetings, the GLI Fellows attended the extremely successful IR/PS alumni panel and reception on the evening of February 19th, moderated by IR/PS Professor and GLI Chair Richard Feinberg. IR/PS alumni Dr. Emily Murase '90, Jay Hanson '96, Brooke Schull '04, and Nina Merchant '07 offered their insight on the effects of the economic crisis in their respective fields. Dr. Murase, the Executive Director of the Department on the Status of Women in San Francisco, discussed the impacts on the public sector, while Jay Hanson talked about similar issues in the private sector. Brooke Schull and Nina Merchant, both of the Asia Foundation, conversed about the consequences of the economic crisis on the non-profit sector. In addition to the 15 GLI Fellows, 40 IR/PS alumni, 20 current MPIA students, and 5 prospective MPIA students were in attendance for a truly collaborative event.
