On December 1st, Dean Cowhey invited Mr. Masa Tanaka to discuss the current state of the United States' economy in comparison with the Japanese economy of the '90s. Mr. Tanaka drew some intriguing connections between the two nations. His presentation, titled "An Unwelcome Déjà Vu: A Memory of the Financial Meltdown in Japan," detailed stock patterns, home values, and GDP growth rates between the US and Japan.

Masaaki Tanaka is the president and CEO of UnionBanCal Corporation and its primary subsidiary, Union Bank of California. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr. Tanaka served as an Executive Officer of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU) in Tokyo. He is also a member on the board of directors at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Mr. Tanaka graduated with a master of law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
