IR/PS Alumnus to Join University of Connecticut Faculty

Yu Zheng, Ph.D., 2007, becomes Assistant Professor

Yu Zheng, a graduate of the Beijing Institute of Internatonal Relations, had worked at a think tank on international studies in Beijing before coming to IR/PS, where he earned his Ph.D. in Political Science and International Affairs. Yu's primary research interest is international political economy with a focus on the relationship between political institutions and economic development. His Ph.D. dissertation was titled “Credibility and Flexibility: Political Institutions and Foreign Direct Investment."

As a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University at the Princeton-Harvard China in the World Program, Yu is currently working on a book manuscript examining how national and local institutions affect foreign direct investment in China. In the Fall of 2008 he will begin work as Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Connecticut.

Yu is married to IR/PS alumna Xiaowei Shi, MPIA, 2005, and has a one-year old daughter, Nanxi.
