Washington, D.C. Alumni Meeting
Getting together to socialize and plan future events
08/14/2007
Katie Mayfield,

On June 22, several members of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the IR/PS Alumni Association got together to socialize, discuss current issues, and plan chapter activities for the coming months. The event brought together both new and old alumni, current students doing internships in the D.C. area , as well as newly-admitted students who will begin their IR/PS coursework in the fall. Attendees were happy to meet up with familiar and new faces alike, and have a fun Friday evening together.
Washington, D.C. is a hot spot for IR/PS’ers after graduation. With an abundance of nonprofit and NGO headquarters in addition to many federal government opportunities, each summer the city sees a large influx of new graduates ready to put their newly attained skills to use. For years, the alumni chapter has been supporting these new city residents with advice on housing, the job market, and networking opportunities in a fairly informal capacity. As the group has grown, the chapter has decided to formalize roles to create an effective IR/PS presence in our nation’s capital.
With the help of IR/PS alumni relations coordinator, Katie Mayfield, the D.C. alumni chapter has successfully formed committees based on the needs and initiatives of the group. A handful of committee heads form the leadership of the chapter, and will focus on specific areas such as networking, breakfast roundtable planning, social events, and liaising with IR/PS. One immediate goal of the group is to ascertain correct contact information for alumni in the area.
