Dear IR/PS Alumni,
Online Discussion Program for IR/PS Alumni: Issues for the Global Workforce
I am very pleased to announce that Professor Roger Bohn will be hosting and moderating an online, threaded discussion during the entire month of June 2007 about intellectual property rights (IPR) in the pilot project for the first global, online forum management program for the alumni and students of IR/PS entitled Issues for the Global Workforce.
Objective
The objective of this online forum management program is to make the IRPS alumni and student participants more globally aware and employable. IR/PS alumni from around the globe and current students are being invited to participate in a series of threaded discussions related to the expertise of IR/PS professors, and we would very much like you to participate in this pilot project. This first forum will address issues related to intellectual property rights and will be hosted and moderated by Professor Roger Bohn.
What we have designed is intended to be an interesting discussion, taking advantage of the knowledge of IR/PS alumni scattered around the world. IR/PS alumni with expertise in the discussion topic are especially asked to share their opinions, so we can all learn more.

- Roger is a management and technology expert with a strong interest in IPR, so the discussion will certainly not be superficial.
- Moreover, there are numerous IR/PS alumni with experience and expertise in this area, and their comments will certainly enable us to take the discussion to a deeper and more meaningful level.
- Additionally, as all opinions will not be those of any organization but those of the individual participants, there are certain to be some unique views on IPR expressed by IR/PS alumni who work with IPR in the private and public sectors.
- In this type of threaded discussion, the comments posted tend to be thoughtful, so they are worth reading and taking into consideration.
- Finally, IR/PS alumni of all levels of IPR experience will be able to learn from the experiences and insights of their peers through this online discussion program.
Participation
In order to post your comments and have your voice heard about this important and interesting subject, you need to have a FirstClass account. If you do not have a FirstClass account yet, please contact Gary Hoffman at ghoffman@ucsd.edu.
If you have a FirstClass account, all you need to do is log in to FirstClass online at http://irpsmail.ucsd.edu/login. You can also go to the web site to download the client software and hook up to the server.
Gary has also already set up the Global Workforce Development conference inside the Alumni conferences area in IRPSMAIL, the FirstClass server. Every alum in FirstClass has easy access to this folder.
The discussions will proceed as threaded messages based on reactions to the readings or other postings. Gary has also set up a folder for files such as readings and a chat area for online chats with text or audio.
