Free Trade Agreement Scholar available for Comment and background on CAFTA vote

Richard Feinberg, professor of political science in the Graduate School of International Affairs and Pacific Studies at the University of California San Diego and an authority on inter-American trade, is available to comment on the upcoming Senate and House vote on the U.S.-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Feinberg served in the Clinton administration as senior director for Inter-American affairs on the National Security Council from 1993 to 1996, and was a leader in the effort to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement. Recently he signed a letter, along with other prominent Democrats, endorsing passage of CAFTA. While at the NSC, Feinberg was a principal architect of the 1994 Summit of the Americas in Miami. He previously served as president of the Inter-American Dialogue, executive vice president of the Overseas Development Council, and has held positions on the policy planning staff of the U.S. Department of State and in the Office of International Affairs in the U.S. Treasury Department. Feinberg is the current book reviewer for the Western Hemisphere section in Foreign Affairs magazine. His book, Summitry in the Americas: A Progress Report, provides the first in-depth analysis of how U.S. foreign policy is made.
