Up to $80,000 Available Through Tribal Membership Initiative

The Tribal Membership Initiative is an endeavor by UC San Diego's Office of Graduate Studies to increase diversity by providing fellowships to prospective students who are members of a federally recognized tribe of any of the original peoples of North America or the Hawaiian Islands. Setting admissions priorities to educate members of recognized Native American political entities represents a legitimate responsibility of the University of California, San Diego. With 17 tribes in San Diego County, UC San Diego has an affirmative obligation to educate tribal members. Moreover, tribes have an overriding interest in developing the skills of each generation in order to prosper politically, economically, and culturally.
All tribal members admitted under this initiative enrolling in the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies’ Master of Pacific International Affairs (MPIA) degree program will be eligible to receive a two year fellowship, which includes a $15,000 per year stipend, and up to $25,000 per year allotment for fees.
