American researcher for wood products, Leonard Krause, 53, is glad that he attended the recent UK Timber Trade Federation seminar and “Dialogue on requirement for timber legality verification in the global market” at Nikko Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
He said the dialogue, organised by the Malaysian Trade Council (MTC), had helped him understand better the political dynamics, wood industries and interests in Malaysia.
Leonard noted that after the opening of the MTC Global Woodmart 2010, the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Tan Sri Bernard
Giluk Dompok was asked by the foreign journalists and timber writers when the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT)- Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the European Union (EU) could be signed.
