Head of South Korean army resigns

The head of South Korea's army General Hwang Eui-don has resigned.
Defence ministry officials confirmed that General Hwang resigned after media reports linked him to a financial scandal. His resignation comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula. It follows the resignation of the Defence minister, who was criticised for his response to Pyongyang's attack on a South Korean island, which killed four people. South Korea's military has been under intense domestic scrutiny, since the North Korean attack on Yeonpyeong island last month.
