Japan faces incredible obstacles on the road to recovering from the recent earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. To provide some insight into the aftermath of the disaster, the San Diego Museum of Man will host a panel discussion titled “Perspectives on Japan: Dealing with the Devastation.” The event will be held Tuesday, March 29, 5-7 p.m. in the Gill Auditorium at the Museum of Man. The panel will provide an opportunity for San Diego residents to better understand the situation in Japan.

Panelists include Dr. Takeo Hoshi, a UCSD professor and economist who will discuss the economic implications of the disaster; Dr. Stefan Tanaka, UCSD professor and historian who will speak on lessons that can be learned from Japanese responses to prior disasters; Dr. Joseph Hankins, UCSD professor and anthropologist who will discuss the breakdown of supply chains for Japan and the rest of the world; Dr. Michael Inoue, President Emeritus of the Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana, who will analyze the cultural implications of the disaster; Mr. Kazuyuki Abe, former Imperial Guard who will speak about his connection to the people of the impacted region; and Dr. Micah Parzen, Museum of Man’s Executive Director, who will moderate the panel discussion.
