Former President Bill Clinton was speaking to students at UCSD Saturday as part of his fourth annual Clinton Global Initiative University.

"They don't have as much money as the people who come to the regular global initiative meeting at the UN but they have amazing ideas," said Clinton in a press conference.

Clinton touched on a few of CGI's accomplishments by students including, $2.8 million for college scholarships, $400,000 for humanitarian relief and $800,000 for global health programs and hospitals.

Each year, students make a commitment to improve a global problem. Issues discussed this weekend included college affordability, LGBT rights, poverty, immigration and ocean pollution. Students also participated in hand-on workshops designed to improve their understanding of fundraising, marketing and community engagement, said organizers.

This year, CGI U picked the top 16 ideas from 950 and put them in brackets, like the NCAA March Madness tournament, then had the public vote. Nearly 60,000 people voted.
