IR/PS Alumnus' Organization, Beers for Books, Raises Money for Tohoku

04/29/2011

Beers for Books (B4B) is a non-profit fundraising organization founded by IR/PS alumnus Gary Bremermann (MPIA '91). B4B's two year anniversary celebration was scheduled for Room to Read founder John Wood's annual visit to Japan, but after the earthquakes and tsunami, the trip was postponed and the B4B event was re-purposed to raise money for Tohoku instead.

Over 700 people attended this joint B4B-Room to Read Tohoku event. 107 boxes of toys, games, books, school and art supplies were collected and attendees raised 1,733,154 JPY. The money was transferred to Kokkyo Nakii Kodomotachi, a local non-profit organization focused on children's issues.

Beers for Books uses fun and simple social events to raise money and support the in-country operations of Room to Read, a highly efficient and effective organization focused on childhood literacy and gender equality in education.
