Alumnus Jacob Searing Makes an Impact in Japan

08/25/2011

IR/PS alumnus Jacob Searing, MPIA '05, was recently profiled by the UCSD Chancellor's Office Point of View series in an interview that covered his post-graduation experiences living and volunteering in Japan, and his efforts to found a business dedicated to strengthening ties between IR/PS and Japanese students and professionals.

After graduating from IR/PS in 2005, Jacob went to work for Rabobank International in Tokyo, advancing to the head of the Operational Risk Management department. Jacob had always preserved his affection for UCSD and the San Diego area, an affection he channeled into a new business that escorts Japanese students and businessmen to the San Diego area in cooperation with IR/PS's GLI program. This endeavor was a natural fit for Jacob, allowing him to unite his love for Japanese culture and the San Diego area.

In addition to his work with GLI, Jacob has a passion for volunteering. After the recent devastating earthquake in Japan, Jacob rushed to help those affected by the tragedy. "I felt this strong desire, almost a need, to get to the impacted region to volunteer right away," he explained, describing his experience helping clean and restore areas of Japan affected by the tsunami.
