Edmund Malesky Examines Rick Perry's Jobs Program

Academics search for evidence of corruption in Perry's jobs program

Even before he became a candidate for president, Gov. Rick Perry's Texas Enterprise Fund has attracted controversy. Various media outlets and watchdog groups have explored the companies that receive millions of dollars in grants from the fund in exchange for promising to create more jobs in Texas. Some reports have highlighted connections between the companies and donations to Perry's campaign funds.

Now two political science professors are trying to determine if the allegations of crony capitalism are real or just a result of looking at the data wrong. Writing on the Monkey Cage blog (a must-read for political science junkies), Nathan Jensen of Washington University in St. Louis and Edmund Malesky of the University of California, San Diego, provide a look into their still-ongoing examination of the Texas Enterprise Fund.
