Giving foster youth some room to dream

The list of items that can improve the lives of young adults aging out of our foster-care system is long but not terribly complicated. Basically, they need stuff. Interview clothes and laptop computers. Furniture and school supplies. Bus passes. Gas cards. Linens.
Then there is the stuff that isn’t stuff. The stuff futures are made of. Kids who grow up in the foster-care system could use some of that, too, and Marcy Morrison is there to give it to them.
“They have always been in survival mode, so they are never given the opportunity to dream and hope. When you ask them, ‘What do you love to do?’ you get this blank look,” said Morrison, a volunteer career coach and mentor with Just in Time for Foster Youth. “They have the answers. They just need someone to ask the right questions.”

Marcy is currently working as a consultant for the Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA to help them develop a corporate giving plan. In July she will be joining a high school friend for a new company launch in November — more details will be revealed soon. Since IR/PS, Marcy has owned her own company Careers with Wings where she published her book "Finding Your Passion: The Easy Guide to Your Dream Career," helped people find jobs they are passionate about, assisted layoffs in English and Spanish, and was in many media appearances around the country. Marcy has also worked in development for the Institute of the Americas, international marketing at Qualcomm, and sales with the San Diego Business Journal. Marcy is the proud Mom of two boys — Cameron and Logan.
