China’s transition from a developing country to the second largest economy in the world has been a wild ride. Barry Naughton, a China expert on the faculty of UC San Diego’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, presented in July on projecting the future of balanced growth for China during a global recession.
“So little is known about China,” he told the forum at the UCSD Faculty Club.
That makes it difficult to project the basic economic factors that measure gross domestic product and labor trends. Has the incredible growth slowed temporarily or merely stabilized as a component of the global economy? That is the big unknown.
