IR/PS Professors Join Delegation at Renmin University of China

Faculty from the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies — Dean Peter F. Cowhey and Professors Gordon McCord, Joshua Graff Zivin, and Junjie Zhang — visited Renmin University of China on September 11 to sign an agreement of cooperation.
9月11日上午,加州大学圣地亚哥分校国际关系与太平洋研究学院院长Peter F. Cowhey教授一行访问我院并举行学术交流会,双方讨论了院际之间的教学、科研合作与交流事宜,并签署了合作协议。环境学院的部分老师和学生出席了本次交流会。

While there, they also visited the School of Economics, where they established the intent to collaborate in research, education and training in the future.

Peter Cowhey is Dean at the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. He is also the Qualcomm Endowed Chair in Communications and Technology Policy. Dean Cowhey can provide commentary on U.S. trade policy, foreign policy, the future of communications and information technology markets and policy, the internet, biological threats, international corporate strategy, and the microfinance industry to alleviate poverty.
Gordon McCord completed his Ph.D. degree in Sustainable Development from Columbia University in May 2011, and works at the intersection of development economics, public health and environment. Gordon’s research focuses on understanding the changing role of geography in economic development.
Joshua Graff Zivin is Associate Professor of International Relations and Pacific Studies and Affiliated Faculty of Economics. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and Research Director for International Environmental and Health Studies at the Institute for Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC).
Junjie Zhang is Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics at IR/PS. His research centers on empirical issues in environmental and resource economics. His research topics cover climate change, water resources, and fisheries. He is particularly interested in an interdisciplinary approach that involves both social sciences and natural sciences to deal with environmental problems with policy relevance.
