Planning your application for Fall 2013 Admission
Thank you for your interest in applying to the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Master of International Affairs (BA/MIA) degree program. We look forward to working with you throughout the process of completing your application for admission.
Application Information
The IR/PS admissions process uses the UC San Diego online application system. The system is meant to make the application process as easy and convenient as possible. Once you begin your application, you have the ability to log in and out of the system and make edits to your application as many times as you wish. However, you can only submit your application one time. If you have updates to any information you have submitted, please notify the IR/PS Office of Admissions.
Application Deadline
Standard deadline: April 22, 2013*
*If the deadline falls on a weekend or a holiday the next business day will apply to postmark dates on mailed docuements. Online application submissions should adhere to 11:59 pm PST on the date of the posted deadline.
Application Requirements
Application to the BA/MIA program requires the submission of the materials listed below. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all application materials are received by the application deadline. All materials, except official academic transcript(s), can be submitted through the online application.

Essays
Required Essay
- Your statement of purpose and professional objectives in international affairs and/or research interests
- How your background has prepared you to pursue these objectives
Optional Statement/Supplemental Essay
- This is an opportunity for you to adress a matter that is not already addressed elsewhere in your application and that you feel will help the Admissions Committee to understand challenges you have overcome or other circumstances that affected your successes.

Upload to the online application.Transcripts
Applicants may either: Submit official academic transcript(s) by mail to the Office of Admissions in an unopened envelope sealed by the university's registrar or upload copies of transcripts during the online application process.Three Letters of Recommendation
Those making the recommendations submit directly to the online application or by mail in a sealed envelope signed across the flap by the recommender.
Admissions Interview
Invitations to participate in Admissions interviews are sent after essays, resume, the completed online application, and application fees are received.
Application Fee
Fee of $70 U.S. citizens, $90 International applicants is required to complete the online application. Fee is non-refundable and payable by major credit card. Fee waivers are available for U.S. citizens and permanent residents with certain income levels. More information at the Office of Graduate Studies.Mailing Supplemental IR/PS Application Materials
