Pre-College Programs
GLI's Pre-College Programs are designed to provide international high school students with strategies and problem solving techniques necessary for the TOEFL iBT and SAT. The program integrates test-taking skills, language proficiency, and guidance for students seeking undergraduate study in the United States.
This is a full-time college preparatory program with approximately 24 hours/week of in-class instruction.
High school students from Shanghai, China, please note that the Pre-College Alliance is currently accepting applications for a 2012-2013 Pre-College Program.
Intensive TOEFL and SAT

Learning in Context
Each week the students will attend courses such as “U.S. Culture” and “U.S. History” to reinforce the skills learned in both modules.
Preparing for College Admissions
Students will meet with college advisors (privately and as a group) to guide them through the college application process. The following topics will be addressed:
- Important factors in selecting a college
- Applying to colleges
- How to write a college essay and personal statement
Extra-curricular Activities
- Field trips to local college fairs
- Campus tours to universities in Southern California
- Information sessions with college admissions officers from top universities across the United States
Optional Coursework
For an additional cost, students with a minimum TOEFL iBT of 79 and GPA of 3.3 may be eligible to take one course at UC San Diego for official university credit in the summer portion of the pre-college program. High school students interested to enroll in one lower division course must submit the following documentation: official high school transcripts, teacher/counselor recommendation, and copy of official TOEFL score. Non-English documents must include official English translations.
