Summer ESL Programs

GLI ESL ProgramGLI offers full-time English as a Second Language (ESL) courses during the summer designed to improve academic and professional communication skills. This program is strongly recommended for Fellows enrolling in intensive graduate study and research at IR/PS.

The intensive English courses focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Fellows are introduced to IR/PS course material in a way that helps participants become familiar with the content and the vocabulary of the IR/PS curriculum, and equips them with a sense of context for their academic, cultural, and living environment. Even though this is a full-time academic program, there will also be time to build friendships and enjoy San Diego's sunny and temperate weather and extensive outdoor opportunities.

Summer enrollment options include:

  • Session I and II - 10 weeks beginning in July
  • Session I - 5 weeks beginning in July
  • Session II - 5 weeks beginning in August

New material is presented in each 5-week session with no repeat between the sessions, so Fellows may choose the program that best fits their schedule. See the GLI Academic Calendar for program and session start dates. Fellows interested in beginning studies at GLI with ESL Session I who intend to enroll in the Fall quarter must register for the 10-week Program. Please contact us with any questions about enrollment options.
