The Security of the Asia-Pacific career track faculty include
Tai Ming Cheung
, Jesse Driscoll, Stephan Haggard, Jon Lindsay, Susan Shirk, and Barbara Walter.

Core and Capstone Course Requirement

Core courses must be completed in the first fall quarter:
IRCO 481 - Politics of International and National Policymaking
IRCO 482 - Economies of the Pacific Rim

Capstone course is taken in the final spring quarter:
IRCO 485 - International Security Policy and Analysis

Regional Electives Requirement

Two courses focusing on one more more of the IR/PS regions China, Japan, Korea, or Southeast Asia must be completed. At least one of these courses must be selected from the following list:
IRGN 404 - Chinese Politics
IRGN 405 - US-China Relations
IRGN 408 - Korean Security
IRGN 416 - Postwar Politics in Japan
IRGN 460 - US-Japanese Relations
IRGN 463 - Politics of Southeast Asia
IRGN 484 - Korean Politics

A second elective may come from IR/PS courses focusing on China, Japan, Korea, or Southeast Asia.

Career Track Requirement

At least two of the following three courses are required:
IRGN 403 - Rise of China: Security and Technology
IRGN 442 - Foundations of Strategic Studies
IRGN 469 - Comparative Grand Strategy and Defense Policy

If only two of the above courses are chosen, an additional course is to be selected from the below list of track electives.

Electives Requirement

Of the four required elective courses, at least two must be selected from a list which includes:
IRCO 410 - International Politics and Security
IRCO 412 - Globalization
IRCO 467 - Policy Responses to Global Problems
IRGN 400 - International Relations of the Asia-Pacific
IRGN 401 - Civil Wars: Theory and Practice
IRGN 427 - International Law and Regulation
IRGN 429 - Postwar State Building
IRGN 430 - Human Rights, Public Policy, and International Politics
IRGN 433 - Political Analysis
IRGN 477 - Cybersecurity
IRGN 482 - International Strategies Toward Fragile States

The two remaining elective courses may be chosen from any offered at IR/PS.
