Why PhD?
Analytically Trained, Regionally Focused
The PhD in Political Science and International Affairs is a joint program with the UC San Diego Political Science Department.
This program prepares students for careers in university teaching and research, or as international affairs researchers and specialists in policy analysis.
Sixteen courses are required to advance to candidacy and combine the analytical skills of political science with the political economy, institutional analysis, policy analysis (especially economic policy), and regional training of IR/PS. A regional focus and language proficiency are required.
