Japan Specialization

Professors Takeo Hoshi, Ellis Krauss, and Ulrike Schaede lead the Japan concentration, and conduct cutting-edge academic research on Japanese economics, politics, business, and management.

Language

Japan specialists must satisfy the MPIA language requirement in Japanese.  At IR/PS, Japanese language instruction is headed by Yashy Tohsaku and Eiko Ushida.  Undergraduate level training is available at the UC San Diego Japanese Studies Program.  Advanced Japanese is required for IRGN 469 Corporate Restructuring in Japan.
