Editing Web Page Content

Find the Page

Use the Site button to find your page.

Edit the Page

Make changes to your page.

Save the Page

Send your page to the website.


Edit the page

Double click the text area to open text editor window. Use the window the same way you would a word processor. The icons lining the top of the window are your tools. Use these to format text, create links, and add pictures.

Add new text

If copying text from a Word Document or another application, you must remove any existing formatting before pasting the text into the editor.

Paste from Word Document

1. Highlight the text you wish to copy.

2. Use Control-C (Command-C on Mac) to copy the text.

3. In the web editor, place the cursor where you want to paste the text.

4. Click the Paste from Word button in the web editor.

5. Paste the text into the window that opens using Control-V (Command-V on Mac).

6. Click Insert.

Paste from Other Applications

1. Highlight the text you wish to copy.

2. Use Control-C (Command-C on Mac) to copy the text.

3. Back in the web editor, Click the Paste as Plain Text button.

4. Place the cursor in the web editor window where you want to paste the text.

5. Paste the text using Control-V (Command-V on Mac).

Format the text

  • Headers are used to organize the page. Apply them to section titles. Highlight the title text, then click the dropdown Format menu and click one of the heading styles. As a general rule, do not use headers beyond Headings 1, 2, and 3.

To link to a page that is within the IR/PS website:

1. Highlight the text or image to be used as the link.

2. Click the Insert/Edit Link icon.

3. Click the Browse icon next to the Link URL field.

4. Click Section/Document.

5. Navigate the website directory to the page you need to link to.

6. Select the page, and click OK. Click Insert. 

 

To link to a page that is outside of the IR/PS website:

1. Highlight the text or image to be used as the link.

2. Click the Insert/Edit Link icon.

3. Paste the link to the external site into the Link URL field.

4. Before you finish, go to the Target field and in the drop down menu, select Open in new window (_blank).

5. Click Insert.



To create a link to launch email:

1. Highlight the text to be used as the link. This can be your name or the actual email address.

2. Click the Insert/Edit Link icon.

3. Copy and paste the text below into the Link URL field in the window that opens, replacing irps@ucsd.edu with the contact email address.

4. Click Insert.



To link to a downloadable document:

1. Upload the document using the Assets button.

2. Highlight the text or image to be linked to the document.

3. Click the Insert/Edit Link icon.

4. Click the Browse icon next to the Link URL field.

5. Click the Asset button.

6. Search for your Asset using the search field above.

7. Select the asset by clicking to highlight it, then click OK.

8. Click Insert.



To link to an anchor within a page:

An anchor is a reference point on a long page which can be linked to from the top of the page. You can create a link to an anchor from the top of the page so that viewers can navigate to an important section quickly.

1. Place the cursor in the location on your page where you would like to place an anchor.

2. Click the Insert/Edit Anchor button.

3. Name your anchor something useful, i.e. the header you are anchoring. Click Insert.

4. Now, set up a link to your anchor by highlighting text (at the top of the page) and clicking the Insert/Edit Link button.

5. Click the dropdown menu in the Anchor field and choose the anchor to which you are linking.

6. Click Insert.



To remove a link:

1. Highlight the link by double-clicking anywhere on the blue text.

2. Click the Unlink icon.

Insert Images

Before adding an image to your page, it must be uploaded to Assets.

1. Place the cursor at the position you would like to place the image.

2. Click the "Insert/Edit Image" icon on the toolbar.

3. Click the Browse icon next to the Image URL field.

4. Search for your image using the search field at the top.

5. Click the item to highlight it, then click OK.

6. Fill out an "Image Description" in the appropriate field (a couple of words describing the image).

7. Click the Appearance Tab to align or wrap text around the photo. Make sure to change both the Alignment and Class fields. (Class should be floatright or floatleft if the image is to be in line with the text).

If necessary, reduce the size of the photo:
While holding the Shift key, click and drag a corner handle on the photo.
